Josh Shpak Quartet

  • The Lilypad 1353 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA, 02139 United States (map)

This is an eclectic group of musicians gathering to celebrate the release of Eleanor Elektra’s new single “In a Jar”. It will be a night moving through fusions of jazz, electronic, classical and folk sounds and stories. All equally writers and instrumentalists, the three acts find common ground in being each equally distinctive; it will be, at various points, pensive, exhilarating, confessional and wordless.

This is the lineup:

Melissa Weikart

Eleanor Elektra

Josh Shpak Quartet (Josh Shpak, Max Ridley, Charles Overton, Eviatar Slivnik)

Come enjoy and support!

MELISSA WEIKART
Melissa Weikart is a vocalist, pianist, songwriter and improviser based in Boston, MA. She is currently finishing up her Masters in Contemporary Improvisation at New England Conservatory, where she has studied with Anthony Coleman, Carla Kihlstedt, Dominique Eade, and Hankus Netsky. In December 2017, she released her debut EP “Coffee” on HEC tapes, in which she “subtly displays her mastery over pen and canvas, drawing a hyperrealist landscape with words and sound and the scattered, piercing perceptions of a restless mind taking the hypocritical world to task, and leaving us wanting more.” She was recently awarded a grant by the Entrepreneurial Musicianship department at NEC to recompose Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys for an all non-male ensemble, which will be performed in May 2018

JOSH SHPAK QUARTET
Shpak is a member of rock/funk/dance-pop band, Ripe, the Mario Castro Quintet and numerous other projects. He also performs with his own groups, and tonight will be presenting the new band, The Josh Shpak Quartet. Comprised of Shpak and three other Boston-based musicians – Charles Overton (harp), Eviatar Slivnik (drums) and Max Ridley (bass) – the musicians explore the cross-sections between acoustic jazz improvisation, singer-songwriter and rock aesthetics. Shpak has made himself a wanted commodity in the music world—playing with jazz heavy-weights, such as George Garzone, Dave Liebman and Kenny Werner, soul legends Tower of Power, 90’s rock ragers G Love and Blues Traveler, and pop/opera superstar, Josh Groban.

ELEANOR ELEKTRA
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, singer songwriter Eleanor Elektra combines elements of folk, jazz and classical music within the songwriter idiom to create unique cinematic songs. Largely a self taught guitarist, her playing is both technical and idiosyncratic, skillfully supporting songs that are rich in both composition and execution. She has performed extensively throughout the north east and north west United States.
