The Charles Overton Group is a Boston-based band that hopes to offer a fresh take on the tradition of small ensemble jazz.  Their goal in their music is to pay homage to this century-old tradition through their explorations in spontaneous composition and other improvised forms while also hoping to tread new ground by allowing their own distinct musical backgrounds to shape and color their approach to playing standards, music of today's artists, and their own original music.  Since coming together in the Spring of 2015 they have made a name for themselves in Boston starting with headlining their own show at Sculler's Jazz Club in April of 2016.  More recently their first CD for commercial release entitled "Convergence" was made available in July of this year, and in the 2017-2018 season are set to appear at several festivals including the Camac festival in Washington D.C. and the Ancenis Harp Festival in Ancenis, France.  Whether playing recognizable pop melodies, unique arrangements of standards, or exploring more eclectic and dissonant sound worlds, it is the goal of the Charles Overton Group, through the vehicle of improvised music, to create a musical environment that is accessible, inviting and can resonate with any audience.
